From Pastor Hondo's Desk - March 2020
Hello Manhattan Bible Church,
I wanted to reach out to you to tell you that I’m praying for you and asking that God would pour blessings over all of you.
We find ourselves in a place like never before, many in our city have lost their lives and some are fighting the ills of the COVID-19 virus. Many have lost their jobs and many are finding themselves in isolation. Some of our older members are vulnerable as are those who have compromised immune systems, they are most at risk because of this virus.
We have quite a few members on the front lines, having been labeled as “essential personnel”. Many of us are not leaving our homes, we’re working from home, teaching our children from home, helping our neighbors, elderly parents, and much more. I’m proud to say that MBC has been able to do many things we’ve never done before, such as, implement live streaming, hosting prayer meetings via conference and video calls, enhancing online giving capabilities, and more. All of this is in order to keep us as safe as possible from COVID-19 while complying with the government’s gathering rules.
Let us cry out to the Lord together, for the battle is the Lord’s. (2 Chron. 20:25)
There is so much more to say regarding this pandemic, I’d like turn your attention to one of the realities that has affected many churches worldwide and has hit us here at MBC. Unfortunately, our tithes and offerings have been drastically lowered in the weeks since our last Physical Gathering at Manhattan Bible Church. If this situation continues, further budget cuts will have to be made in order to pay our bills. We’ve already had to relieve our evening cleaning crew. As you know, the tithes and offerings directly support our missionaries, our church staff, and also go to pay all our bills on time (Con Ed, phones, etc.).
Please take a moment to thank the Lord for His provisions thus far and let’s count our blessings. Praise God that we own both of our buildings and have paid all our March bills (Glory to God!). Our April bills are looming and we are in real danger of not being able to pay them on time.
Therefore, I’m writing to us all, so together we can join the fight. Tithing has a direct correlation to our faith. It’s the only area, God tells us to test Him in (Malachi 3:10). We find ourselves in dire straits and therefore ask, would you join us and be faithful in your giving?
Let us continue to pray that the Lord would eradicate this COVID-19 virus and that God would help us stay strong to continue the Good Fight and move forward with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (2 Chron. 7:14)
Let us keep our eyes on the author and finisher of our faith. Keep hold of the very word of the Lord.
I remain hopeful and hold to my life’s verse, Proverbs 16:3
“Commit your works to the Lord and He will make you a success. “
In faith and in love,
William Hondo Becerril
